When I was studying "Unless clauses" for the first time, I had a little problem because I used a word unless in the simple translation, that was the reason why it turned diffculty for me to do some exercises. Then, I learned that translation is better to be used as the last resource. Thus, I learned that UNLESS = IF NOT in the conditional clauses.
In the following video, Jennifer will help us up giving some explanation and examples to work with Unless clauses.

I was looking for some information about If clauses or conditionals to help my students understand a little bit more of the subject.
Maybe there are some tips that can help students apply the usage of the grammar point in their daily English speaking.

Gerunds and the different functions in English

When I was studying translation at the university , a friend of mine used to tell me that all the verbs go with "ed" because that was the way the nuns of her school taught her (actually, I don't think so, poor nuns). Obviously, I laughed because sometimes her writing made sense, but some other times it was terrible and the final grade was as bad as the "ed" ending of her grammar new rule. It was one of the reasons we didn't let her write any of our English tasks. Thus, when I start teaching English for the first time, I had to manage the use of the "ed" and "ing" endings. I had to understand it in one way that lets me teach in a practical and useful way, so my students could understand and manage it in their daily use.
I saw this video that might help a little bit to clear up the use of the "ing", because in English many verbs go in the ing form but not all of them are actually verbs, they can be adjectives, nouns, etc. Enjoy this video, it could help you up.

How to write an essay

In the following video, you can watch a very good explanation of how you can write an essay. It is explained how to write an essay paragraph by paragraph, from the introduction to a conclusion, It explains the organisation of the introduction and the distribution of paragraphs according to the thesis sentence or statement. It says that an essay must be interesting in the introduction to call the attention of the reader. Never do you answer the question of the essay in the introduction. Make your point of view interesting to the readers.

I was looking for a good video that could help us writing an essay, and I found this interesting video about tips of a good college essay. You can watch an interview that the Connecticut Educational Notebook made to James Moroney, Director of Educational Consulting. They talk about the topics of essays and also about the most important thing ORGANIZATION of the essay.
In international examinations, they are looking for good organization, coherence and passion in the writing it is produced. It is imperative that you take the essay writing seriously and do not make it funny, FUNNY ESSAYS WON'T WORK!

Middle 2nd and the Ecosystems

Middle Second made an excellent presentation in June about the Ecosystems, they made a presentation of Tropical rainforest, Tundra, Savanna and Ocean. Next, you can see the models and all the material they have made to show us how good is to have these ecosystems and be part of them.

June 2008, Upper 3rd working on the writing section

This is how the students from upper 3rd have been working with the FCE, in this time they are working on writing letters following the patters of the FCE writing section. They have to create pieces of writing with no grammar mistakes and lots of coherence. The book they used was "Get on track to FCE", this book is a level below the red one they used on the other post you have seen before. They have done an excellent job. Enjoy watching the pictures!

PET Video 2007

I created this video to show how our students of Middle second get ready for their examination. They work hard to obtain good results. See how Diego Caballero is concentrated in the test, and he looks very interested in the reading. As well, Tomas Navarro he looks very concentrated in the reading. Lucìa Gongora really liked the reading because she obtained very good results in that test. Alejandra Eguzquiza worked very well in that test and her final results were very high.

Here I share with you some pictures I took to my students of Middle Second.
We enjoyed good times and they loved taking pictures. Anyway, they are
very good students and they deserve to spend a very good moment after the
stress of taking a long section delete this from any International
Examination.

I feel that prepare these students for the PET or any other test is a challenge that any English teacher would like to take. As the final results would be a complete success, we know that San Jorge gives the students a good preparation since the very first years. In our school, we make our students love English.

Middle Second getting ready for the PET

It was a good experience working with Middle Second at Saint George’s School; they were a very interesting group. I worked with them readings related to PET Examination. In the next two pictures you can see how they practiced for reading section of PET. You can see Nicole and Maria Claudia very concentrated in their tests. In the next picture you see Diana with a smiling face showing that the reading in the booklet was very interesting and she enjoyed it.

We are trying to make our students feel comfortable with the process of
learning. We are always in search of good exercises and materials that help
our students improve their English level.
This year there are some students from this group who took the PET at ACPB
and according to what they mentioned, thanks to the training they received
from the school; they felt that they made it great. So we are waiting for
their results. Well done Guys!

FCE Speaking section.

This is a video where you can see the way we practice the speaking section of the FCE. In the school, we use a text that let us practice each section of it. In this particular case, the video was taken to show how they work in pairs playing the role of examiner and the student applying to the test. It is very interesting how they get involved in the task given, and become very fluent when they are talking. One of the most important items aspects considered in this test is the fluency, coherence and manage cohesion of the language they have to show while talking with a native speaker.

We can see how Renato is trying to convince Gonzalo about his point of view,
I think this is a good reaction that a student applying for these sorts of
tests should have. You can also find Cecilia explaining to Andrea what she
believes about the two professions shown in the pictures of the book. Ivette
is really taking the conversation seriously because she starts reflecting
about the job and the functions they have in society. Alessandra and
Stephanie show themselves very are so involved in the into the
conversation, and that attitude is the one needed for those examinations.
Haroun is also very convinced of what he is saying, and that is very
positive to show his competence in English. Finally, you see how they change
roles.

Why do I have a blog? and hat would I do with it?

I create this blog because I think that English has become one of the most important languages around the world.

We all study English for different reasons. Maybe it is because you want to sing some song in English, watch a movie withut caps or maybe for applying to a job. Once you start, you cdon not watn to give up and go on until the end.

When you become an advanced Englsh student, you have the chance to take different examination from different universities of countries which are native speakers. Thes test are ECPE, ECCE, ESOL, FCE, CAE, TOEFL, etc.
